Our History

Nomadic Development Organization (NDO) is a non-political, non-religious
and non-profit organization, which carries out relief assistance and
development projects in order to help vulnerable groups in Somalia. The
Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland has been funding the development
cooperation projects of the organization since 2009.
The organization was established in 2004, as Nomadic Development
Committee, but changed its name into Nomadic Development Organization
and registered in 2009 to Puntland administration as a non-governmental
development organization. NDO has an office in Buhodle which is the
administrational centre of Cayn region in Northern Somalia.
Although NDO is a young organization, it is developing rapidly and it has
gained the confidence of the local community and local authorities. The
organization carries out its development and humanitarian activities in a
transparent and participatory manner. It has representatives of different age,
background, gender and from different sub-clans.
The primary concern of the organization is women and
children, capacity building of good governance, feeding, health
activity, education, water, environment and rehabilitation of internally
displaced refugees. The organization activity is not restricted into a
special region. It carries out projects throughout the whole country, but at the
moment the organization is engaged in humanitarian assistance and
development projects in Cayn region of Northern Somalia.
The aim of the organization is to support the most vulnerable groups,
especially children who have been affected by the war and extreme drought.

NDO has an organizational capacity with clear areas of responsibility which
consists of the following:
General assembly which consists of the three founding members who
meet at least once a month
Board of directors (BOD) consists of seven (7) members and they have
meetings every month
Management / executive team consists of executive director, financial
director, program co-coordinator and information director.
