- NTRODUCTION
- Sahansaho is a joint project, coordinated by the Finnish Somalia Network (FSN), addressing the sustainable use and management of the natural resources in Somalia.
- It was implemented in Buhodle in 2010. it was supported and funded by Finish Somali Network
- The key development problem which the project aims to find solutions to is the desertification leading to lack of livelihoods, poverty and forced migration.
- The long-term objective is to secure livelihood of the communities and to restore vegetation cover in the project areas.
Major activities of Sahansaho
- The principal activities include: – awareness raising programs, media campaigns and school visits – workshops on energy saving stove making and usage – trainings for charcoal producers on sustainable charcoal production – seedling production, seed collection, advanced trainings on nursery techniques and seed procurement – promotion of agro-forestry practices – promotion of natural regeneration, maintenance of demonstration enclosures – joint meetings for project partners and stakeholders, workshops with authorities
- The main site of Sahansaho is in Buhodle district
- The final beneficiaries are the local communities at large, estimated population of 347 000, that benefit from the rising awareness on environmental issues from the better condition of the environment which will improve their livelihood in general.
