NODO Conducted Support production of nutritious foods through home gardens, farm diversification, agroforestry.
The first phase took place in the month of June 2021. From the 18th to the 21st of June 2021, the project distributed farm tools to 24 Household in Cell-Dahir. The beneficiaries were selected through a community consultative process with the community leaders in order to ensure that only those who meet the specified vulnerable criteria (pregnant, lactating women, old men single parents, elders and young girls who have been given high priority) in order to ensure that only those who meet the specified vulnerable criteria are identified for support. NODO conducted the second phased of distribution of farm inputs (tools) to an additional 30 households in Laag. While the project tried so much to learn from the challenges faced previous with the distribution in Cell-Dahir, making efforts to even have more close coordination with community leaders and stakeholders ensured that the targeted beneficiaries were aware of the planned distribution activity and were responsive to the guidelines set out by NODO and BRAC team; NODO conducted training for build capacity and encourage adoption of home gardening, between the 25th and 26th of June 2021, on the benefits of setting up kitchen/home gardens which would be an improvement from the current traditional farming practices and ultimately support optimal dietary balances and proper nutrition for families. 24 HHs received the trainings on the importance of growing vegetables, how to use the spaces around the homes to set up a kitchen farm, processes of land preparation, use of fertilizer (organic/compost), sowing techniques etc.. |
